NVSC (No Vibration Stone Column) Ground Improvement for New Christchurch Entertainment Precinct

McMillan Civil were successful tenderers for the ground improvement component of the New Entx Central City Entertainment Development. The site is located in the CBD of Christchurch. As there are retail and office buildings immediately adjacent to the job site, traditionally Stone Column or Vibratory ground Improvement techniques would have caused substantial disruption, and would possibly not have been acceptable at a location such as this. A significant factor in the success of McMillan Civil being awarded the project was McMillan’s patented no vibration ground improvement method. The No-Vibration Stone Column method allows clients to consider an entirely new foundation system in sensitive areas, and in many cases providing considerable savings on traditional foundation methods.

At this project stone columns were installed onto the top of a medium dense gravel layer at circa 4.5m depth.
